Robinson Active for Week 6

Sunday, Oct. 18

The Jaguars announced Robinson was not on the list of inactive players against the Houston Texans.

Latest on Robinson's Practice Status Ahead of Week 6

Thursday, Oct. 15

The Jaguars announced Robinson was a full participant in practice for the second straight day.

Robinson's Play-Making Skills Needed for Jaguars

Robinson surprisingly emerged as the team's go-to back last season, but his chances of taking that role away from rookie T.J. Yeldon long-term appear slim, despite Yeldon not playing in Week 6. Robinson tallied just 28 yards on six attempts in the opening two games of the season and added just two receptions for 26 yards.

He started nine games for Jacksonville in 2014, when Toby Gerhart proved ineffective, and the results were solid. He racked up over 700 total yards and four touchdowns while averaging a respectable 4.3 yards per carry.

After a couple of seasons in the NFL and gaining some starting experience, the former Michigan quarterback admittedly entered the 2015 campaign with more confidence than ever, via John Oehser of Jaguars.com:

"

It's like night and day. It was tough. In my rookie year, my head was spinning. I didn't know what position I was playing and I couldn't catch the ball the way I wanted to because of my hand. I never used it as an excuse, because I feel like if I'm out there I shouldn't have an excuse, but now two years later I feel more confident than I ever felt before at running back.

"

Despite Robinson's obvious progress at the running back position last season, the Jags decided to address the backfield during the offseason, using a second-round pick on Yeldon.

While the heavy investment suggested they had every intention of allowing Yeldon to earn the starting job, general manager Dave Caldwell was adamant about how much he liked Robinson leading up to the season, according to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union:

"

He's been really good. Every time he steps on the field, he's getting better. He's more decisive in his reads and he's hitting the hole and he's got excellent burst and explosion and he's a guy the defenses have to be aware of. I think he's got a higher ceiling than he's achieved to his point.

He's proven he can carry the ball. He's proven he can make people miss in the open, he's proven he can pass protect and now he's proven he can really catch the ball.

"

Regardless of Robinson's role, he is a unique player for the Jaguars, as he offers a change of pace in comparison to the other backs and is especially strong on third down due to his sure hands.

He acted as a security blanket out of the backfield at times for quarterback Blake Bortles last season, and his potential absence figures to make life a bit more difficult for the developing signal-caller.
