Ferreira received his first Olympic gold in the event after winning silver in 2018 and bronze in 2022.
He was impressed with the accomplishment following the performance.
"I'm finally in the history books, at least in my eyes," Ferreira said, via Liam Nee of NBCOlympics.com. "I would still be the same person with or without the medal, but it sure does feel good around my neck. … It took countless hours, tons of hard work, unbelievable adversity, and just the willingness to want to succeed."
The 31-year-old bounced back from a rough landing on his first run to move into the No. 2 position on the leaderboard with a score of 90.50 on his second run.
Ferreira then incorporated a third 1080 to go along with five straight double corks on his final run, boosting his score and moving past Sildaru for the No. 1 spot.
Sildaru also put together a strong showing for his third run, although it wasn't enough to jump ahead of Ferreira.
Nick Goepper of the United States appeared to be in line for a spot on the podium, but was bumped out of third place by Mackay on his final run. Goepper ultimately fell on his third run.
As for Ferreira, his victory represented Team USA's 10th gold medal of the 2026 Games.
