Olympic Hockey Bracket 2026 Men's Quarters Results and Semifinals Schedule
Overtime was the theme of the day in the Olympic men's hockey tournament Wednesday.
Team Canada narrowly avoided one of the biggest upsets in Olympic history to advance past Czechia and into the semifinals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games.
Canada came back to claim a 4-3 win in overtime and join Slovakia as the first two teams through the men's hockey quarterfinals.
That was just the start, as Finland became the third team through to the semis after a stunning comeback overtime win over Switzerland.
Then it was the Americans' turns, as the United States barely advanced past Sweden with an overtime goal from Quinn Hughes after giving up a late lead in regulation.
Here's a look at today's results, as well as what to expect from the upcoming schedule.
Wednesday quarterfinals results
Slovakia 6, Germany 2
Canada 4, Czechia 3 (OT)
Finland 3, Switzerland 2 (OT)
United States 2, Sweden 1 (OT)
Friday semifinals schedule
Semifinal 1: 10:40 a.m. ET
Semifinal 2: 3:10 p.m. ET
Medal round
Bronze medal game: Saturday, 2:40 p.m. ET
Gold medal game: Sunday, 8:10 a.m. ET
The bracket will be reseeded ahead of the semifinals, which will feature Canada after Czechia fell just short of pulling off a quarterfinal upset.
Team Canada was left trailing late in Wednesday's game after Sidney Crosby left in the second period with an injury after taking multiple hard hits.
Nick Suzuki scored on a deflection goal to tie the game up before Canadian netminder Jordan Binnington turned aside a late breakaway to send the contest to overtime.
Mitch Marner then scored 1:22 into the extra period to secure Canada's spot in the semifinals.
Team Canada will now wait for an injury update on Crosby before the semifinals begin on Friday.
The Canadians weren't the only ones to barely survive a quarterfinals challenge.
The United States broke open the scoring in a defensive battle with Sweden when Dylan Larkin found the back of the net in the second period off an assist from Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes.
Yet Sweden's defense locked in from there and prevented the Americans from expanding on their lead before dialing up the offensive pressure on the other end in the third period.
That offensive pressure finally resulted in a goal with fewer than two minutes remaining in regulation when Mika Zibanejad tied it up. Suddenly it seemed as if the United States' medal chances were in serious jeopardy.
But Quinn Hughes had other ideas when he scored the winner in the three-on-three overtime.
Earlier on Wednesday, Slovakia started off the quarterfinal round by stunning Leon Draisaitl and Germany with two goals in a span of 33 seconds in Wednesday's second period.
Germany was never able to recover, allowing Slovakia to cruise into the medal round with a 6-2 win.
Samuel Hlavaj, a goaltender for the Minnesota Wild's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, stood tall with 25 saves on 27 shots in the victory.
San Jose Sharks winger Pavol Regenda will head into the semifinals looking to ride his biggest performance of the tournament after scoring two goals against Germany.
Montreal Canadiens winger Juraj Slafkovsky has racked up eight points (three goals, five assists) through five Olympic games. Slafkovsky had an awkward collision into the boards late in the win over Germany but returned to finish out the quarterfinal matchup.
Finland couldn't find the net through two periods later on Wednesday as Switzerland carried a 2-0 lead into the final frame.
Switzerland was just over six minutes away from securing a semifinal berth when Finland's Sebastian Aho scored a late tying goal to even the quarterfinal matchup.
Finland's Artturi Lehkonen scored in extra time to push the defending champions through to the next round.
That tally continued a pattern of clutch goals for Lehkonen, who scored the Stanley Cup-clinching goal for the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
Aho and Lehkonen are now tied for the Finnish team lead with three goals apiece through four games.
The Finns will need another big game from their top scorers and a strong performance from Juuse Saros, who shut out Switzerland through the last two periods, in order to take another step toward defending the country's Olympic title.
