Anthony Edwards Wins NBA All-Star Game MVP, Team Stars Wins as Kawhi, Wemby Wow Fans in New Format

The NBA might've cooked with its new All-Star Game format.

We had Kawhi Leonard going off for 31 points in a single 12-minute game. A fired-up Victor Wembanyama doing all he could for Team World. Clutch moments from players like Leonard, Wemby, Anthony Edwards, Scottie Barnes and De'Aaron Fox, among others.

When the dust settled, it was Team Stars that took home the crown, while Edwards was named the MVP after scoring 32 points across the three games. But there were plenty of memorable moments along the way.

The NBA went to a new format this year, separating the All-Stars into three teams: One team comprised of international players, and two teams of players from the United States. Those teams played a round-robin format, with games lasting 12 minutes (or one quarter in a traditional game).

It proved to be, at least in the first year of its inception, a resounding success. Pundits and fans enjoyed the new format:

Team Stars (comprised of younger USA players) beat Team World 37-35 in the first game, which required overtime and some late-game heroics from Edwards and Barnes:

Team Stripes knocked off Team Stars in the second game, however, as Fox's game-winning three at the buzzer sealed a 42-40 win:

Heading into the final game of the round-robin portion of the event, Team World needed to beat Team Stripes by three points to advance on point differential. Instead, Leonard went absolutely nuclear, putting up 31 points by himself to pace a 48-45 win and set up an all-USA final.

The older legs of Team Stripes appeared to play a factor in the championship round, however (it probably didn't help that it was their third straight game), as Team Stars ran them off the court in a 47-21 win, led by Edwards (eight points) and Tyrese Maxey (nine points).

But the real winner might have been the NBA. This year's All-Star Game was the most memorable in years, featuring three straight nail-biters before a more anticlimactic final game. It was competitive, it was fun and it provided plenty of drama.

You can't ask for much more from an All-Star Game than that.
