Women's Giant Slalom Results
- Federica Brignone (Italy) - 2:13.50
- Sara Hector (Sweden) - 2:14.12
- Thea Louise Stjernesund (Norway) - 2:14.12
- Lara Della Mea (Italy) - 2:14.17
- Julia Scheib (Austria) - 2:14.19
Brignone created the latest incredible moment for Italy at its home Olympics as she crossed the finish line in the giant slalom.
The gold-medal winning moment was even sweeter for Brignone, who suffered a leg injury last April.
The 35-year-old became the dual gold medalist for the host nation at the Milan Cortina Games. Fellow 35-year-old Francesca Lollobrigida won two golds in speed skating.
Brignone set the standard in the event with the top time in the first of two runs.
Hector and Stjernesund turned two of the best runs in the second run to move up from a tie for fourth to a tie for second.
Brignone bested the overall times set by the Swede and Norwegian to claim gold. She actually had the 11th-best time in the second run, but she benefited from the huge gap she won the first run by.
No Americans finished inside the top 10. Mikaela Shiffrin finished in 11th place. Her best chance for a medal is in the slalom later in the week. Paula Moltzan took 15th for Team USA.
