Norway's Birk Ruud dethroned 2022 gold medalist Alex Hall to win the men's slopestyle in freestyle skiing at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Ruud's score of 86.28 in the first run of the final stood up for the rest of the competition.
Norway is now up to five golds, two more than the next closest country (Switzerland).

Men's Slopestyle Medal Winners
- Gold: Birk Ruud (Norway), 86.28
- Silver: Alex Hall (United States), 85.75
- Bronze: Luca Harrington (New Zealand), 85.15
Hall reigned supreme in Beijing with a near-perfect performance, beating out compatriot Nick Goepper. Ruud, meanwhile, failed to get onto the podium and settled for fifth.
Since the 2022 Winter Games, Ruud cemented himself as the skier to beat in Milano Cortina. The Norwegian won the 2023 and 2025 World Championships in slopestyle, adding a gold in the 2024 Winter X Games.
Living up to his reputation, Ruud came hot out of the gate and set a high bar.
As Hall's second run was unfolding, it became clear he was closing the gap and could perhaps leap into first place.
The judges put him narrowly behind Ruud with one run left to go.
When his turn came around, Hall stood at the top of the slope knowing he needed something special to close out the event. His hopes of a second gold medal were immediately dashed as he lost his balance coming off the first rail.
Hall at least managed to hold onto silver as he watched multiple challengers have similarly bad luck.
New Zealand's Luca Harrington was one exception. He surged up the leaderboard during the third run and added some late excitement to capture bronze, his first Olympic medal.
In addition to Hall, Team USA had two other representatives in the slopestyle final. Konnor Ralph and Mac Forehand finished ninth and 11th, respectively.
Freestyle skiing continues Tuesday with the first round of qualifying in women's moguls before Wednesday's final. The men's moguls follow on Thursday.
Ruud has his gold medal defense in men's big air to come on Feb. 17, so he may leave Italy with more hardware.
