Jayson Tatum Reportedly 'Full Go' in Celtics Practice, Latest Updates, Timeline on Injury
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum reportedly took another step toward a possible return.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday that Tatum "is a full go in five-on-five scrimmages with the Celtics. Right now it's about him putting together a number of practices and scrimmages to build up his conditioning and increase the strength in both of his calves."
Charania also noted Tatum is the one in the "driver's seat" with the team not putting any pressure on whether he will return this season.
Tatum's status after suffering a torn Achilles in the playoffs last season has been a major storyline surrounding Boston throughout the 2025-26 campaign. If he does return and is anything close to the dominant version of himself before the injury, the Celtics could be true contenders in the Eastern Conference.
He has gradually progressed throughout the season, and the Celtics made headlines on Feb. 9 when they sent him to their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, to practice with the team.
The announcement at the time explained, "Following this practice, Tatum will be immediately recalled to the Boston Celtics, where he will continue his rehab process."
He is now practicing with the NBA team.
When healthy, Tatum is one of the best players in the league with a resume that includes an NBA title, five All-NBA selections, six All-Star nods and an Eastern Conference Finals MVP.
He averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from deep last season.
While Jaylen Brown has fully assumed the role of go-to option with Tatum sidelined this season, the Celtics will have two stars to lead the way if the latter does return to the court. And that will provide quite a boost to their title chances.
