Lakers' LeBron James Reacts to Being Named NBA All-Star for Record 22nd Straight Season in Video
LeBron James will be an All-Star for the 22nd straight time after being named as one of the reserves on Sunday. Suffice to say, it's become old hat for the future Hall of Famer.
"Twenty-two straight, I think. Yeah, I didn't make it my rookie year," a fairly stoic James said ahead of Sunday's matchup with the New York Knicks. "Twenty-two straight. Nah, it ain't bad. Blessed, honored. Truly."
After the game, James said (at the 2:40 mark) that he "really didn't think about" his All-Star streak and that it wasn't a "goal" of his to make the All-Star team after missing the start of the season with an injury:
It may be James' last. The 41-year-old very well could be in his final season, and even if he isn't, he's starting to show his age in a way he never has before. In 30 games this season, James is averaging 21.9 points, his lowest mark since his rookie season. He's also putting up 6.6 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game.
The Lakers are now built around Luka Dončić as the focal point of the offense, which could also be playing a part in James' decline in production. And injuries have been a storyline during the 2025-26 season.
Either way, he's still playing at an All-Star level, something normally reserved for players in their 20s and 30s. It's wildly impressive.
Here's another way to put his incredible All-Star streak in perspective: James has as many consecutive All-Star nods (22) as fellow All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Duren have years on the Earth (both are 22 years old).
So yeah. Old hat.
