Derrick Rose Says He Doesn't Want Bulls Statue, References Viral Dwyane Wade Tribute
Former Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose revealed that he doesn't want a statue of himself outside the United Center after Dwyane Wade received the same honor from the Miami Heat.
"No knock, D-Wade. I saw that statue," Rose said during a Thursday appearance on The Enterprise Zone (h/t Jordy Fee-Platt of The Athletic). "I'm good."
"I don't want a statue of myself," he added. "I feel like that's idolizing in a way I don't want anybody to idolize me."
The Heat unveiled their statue dedicated to Wade in Oct. 2024, which generated buzz as many didn't believe that it resembled him.
Instead, Rose appears to be content after the Bulls retired his No. 1 jersey in a ceremony on Jan. 24.
Chicago selected Rose with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft and he remained with the organization until he was traded during the 2016 offseason.
He averaged 19.7 points and 6.2 assists per game as a member of the Bulls, shooting 44.8 percent from the field. Rose earned MVP honors for his 2010-11 campaign, becoming the youngest player to win the award in NBA history.
While injuries slowed him down near the end of his tenure in Chicago, he was still recognized for his efforts with his jersey retirement.
A statue doesn't seem to be in the near future, though.
