Evan Mobley Injury Update, Timeline for Return to Cavs After MRI on Calf
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley is expected to miss between one and three weeks with a left calf strain, the team announced Tuesday.
Mobley suffered the injury during Monday's 114-98 win over the visiting Orlando Magic, according to the Cavaliers.
He underwent an MRI on Tuesday and will now begin treatment on the injury, the Cavaliers said.
Mobley played the entirety of Monday's game, recording 35 minutes on the court while contributing 20 points and nine rebounds to the win.
This will mark the second time this season Mobley has missed time with a left calf strain.
The Cavs previously announced that Mobley was expected to miss "approximately" two to four weeks after suffering a Grade 1 left calf strain on Dec. 12.
Mobley ultimately returned on a much shorter timeline. He sat out just five games before returning to the lineup on Dec. 25.
Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson said ahead of that Christmas Day return that he had learned the 24-year-old "heals pretty quick."
"Sometimes age is a factor in these things," Atkinson said in December.
Mobley had progressed to 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 work at practice before he was cleared to play, and then spent two games coming off the bench before returning to the starting lineup 17 days after his last calf strain.
The Cavs will hope to see another quick recovery from this latest calf strain.
Mobley, who won his first career Defensive Player of the Year award last season, has averaged 17.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and four assists alongside two blocks and 0.9 steals per game through 42 appearances and 40 starts.
The Cavs are currently sitting at No. 5 in the Eastern Conference after a 28-20 first half of the season. The team will need Jarrett Allen to step up on defense in order to cover for Mobley's absence during this upcoming stretch.
