The Basketball Tournament 2015: SemifInal Schedule and Predictions for Finals

Alec NathanJul 31, 2015

With $1 million on the line, play at The Basketball Tournament will pick up Saturday as the competition's final four teams vie for the lucrative cash prize and a shot at history.

To this point, Overseas Elite, Team City of Gods, Ants Alumni and Team 23 have proved to be the most complete teams in the tournament. With former collegiate and NBA players galore, as ESPN's Fran Fraschilla pointed out, fans eyes' should be drawn to some high-stakes summer-hoops action:

Ants Alumni vs. Team 23

FORT WAYNE, IN - APRIL 26: Ron Howard and members of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants celebrate after defeating the Santa Cruz Warriors for the National Basketball Developmental League Championship at Allen County Memorial Coliseum on April 26, 2014 in Fort Wayne,

Simply put, Team 23 ravaged its opponents in Chicago at the Super 17.

After crunching 7outz by 41 points, Team 23 blew out LAUNFD, 77-56, to clinch a spot in the semifinals.

"We know if we can get going offensively, we know our defense is going to be there," forward Travis Gabbidon said, according to TheTournament.com. "We’re real long and we’re fast. We cover the floor well. We scramble well."

Gabbidon (14 points) was one of four Team 23 players to finish in double-figures against LAUNFD, with Davin White (18 points), Larry Owens (12 points) and Augustine Okosun (18 points) all combining to provide a balanced and lethal scoring attack.

But the real key for Team 23 will be disrupting a savvy Ants Alumni team on the other end. Team 23 forced 24 turnovers against LAUNFD, which allowed them to control the tempo throughout.

However, it's unlikely Ants Alumni will be as careless with the rock.

Since the roster of the Midwest region winners is comprised of the 2014 NBA D-League champion Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the No. 2 seed doesn't lose its composure easily.

"These guys are pros," Garrett Martz, the Mad Ants vice president of sales and marketing, said, according to the News-Sentinel's Pete DiPrimio. "Everybody has been calm. This hasn't rattled anybody. They're used to playing in big-time situations. They know these are really big stakes."

With Anthony Harris, Stephen Graham and Sadiel Rojas leading the way, Ants Alumni should be able to use their edge in the experience department to take down a hard-charging squad like Team 23.

Prediction: Ants Alumni def. Team 23, 88-84

Overseas Elite vs. Team City of Gods

The second TBT semifinal will pit the Northeast champion against the South's most esteemed team.

And in this case, that means Team City of Gods—hailing from Baltimore—will clash with a smorgasbord of former collegiate standouts who have taken their talents to the international circuit.

Headlining Overseas Elite are familiar names like Texas' Myck Kabongo, Oakland University's Travis Bader, Arizona's Kyle Fogg and St. John's alumnus D.J. Kennedy.

Kennedy, in particular, will be under the microscope after a solid Las Vegas Summer League showing with the Houston Rockets. Fresh off a 24-point, 18-rebound effort in Elite's quarterfinal win, Kennedy should be the focal point of Team City of God's defensive game plan.

That said, Team City of Gods has the veteran bodies necessary to compete with Overseas Elite. We learned as much after the Baltimore ballers downed top-seeded Boeheim's Army to advance to the semifinals.

With former NBA lottery picks Michael Sweetney (No. 9 overall by the New York Knicks in 2003) and DerMarr Johnson (No. 6 overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2000), City of Gods is plenty legit on paper. Plus, they boast former NBA journeyman Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who played for the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Hornets between 2006 and 2010.

But while Team City of Gods packs more flash, Overseas Elite did most of its damage in the Super 17 with a six-man unit, as it did battle without several key players.

That won't be the story come Saturday.

"We’ll be at full strength in New York," Kabongo said, per TheTournament.com "And, we’ll be ready to go."

Prediction: Overseas Elite def. Team City of Gods, 81-78
