Mikaela Shiffrin Wins 106th Career World Cup Ski Race Ahead of 2026 Winter Olympics
With the 2026 Winter Olympics right around the corner, Mikaela Shiffrin continues to dominate on the slopes.
The American narrowly edged out Switzerland's Camille Rast in the women's slalom at Sunday's FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event in Semmering, Austria. She posted a combined time of 1:48.82, only 0.09 seconds better than Rast.

This Shiffrin's 106th World Cup victory all time.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist came in having won five straight World Cup slalom events dating back to last season. It looked like her streak was in jeopardy Sunday at the halfway mark.
Shiffrin completed her first run in 55.24 seconds, putting her 0.54 seconds behind Rast. She set a blistering pace (53.58) during her second run, though, which catapulted her to the top of the podium.
The 30-year-old had to overcome difficult conditions. Thirty-nine skiers were unable to complete their first run, and another five failed on their second runs.
"It was a really hard day today, tough conditions, a really big fight, and the pressure's on," she said shortly after her triumph. "I did my best, best possible run. It didn't feel like good. I didn't expect to come down with the green light. It's been one of those days, it's like: 'Let's refocus and be positive and try.'"
As well as Shiffrin is performing in the slalom, she has room for improvement in the giant slalom. She only mustered a sixth-place showing in Saturday's race in Semmering. Her last World Cup giant slalom win was back in December 2023.
At the very least, Shiffrin looks poised to atone for her disappointing time at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She'll be the clear favorite for the women's slalom in Italy.
