Latest News on Cam Johnson's Timeline to Return from Knee Injury for Nuggets
Denver Nuggets swingman Cameron Johnson will be reevaluated in four to six weeks after an MRI on his knee injury, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Johnson exited with 9:18 remaining in Tuesday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks and did not return after being listed as questionable with a right knee sprain. He remained on the ground holding his knee in pain before getting up and limping to the bench.
This is the veteran's first season with the Nuggets after they acquired him in a trade for Michael Porter Jr. The team was already without Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun because of injuries and can ill-afford many more notable setbacks.
Johnson entered play averaging 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from deep. His ability to stretch the floor from beyond the arc is key in an offense that features Nikola Jokić since he and others see so many open looks when opposing defenses collapse on the big man.
Without Johnson on the floor in crunch time of Tuesday's contest, the Nuggets fell just short in the one-point loss.
Peyton Watson had a wide-open three-pointer on the game's final play when Jokić found him in the corner, but it rimmed out.
Jokić finished with 29 points and 14 assists, while Jamal Murray added 31 points and 14 dimes. Cooper Flagg led the way for the Mavericks with 33 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
