Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Fight Makes History, Netflix Ratings Data Revealed
Thirty-three million people around the world watched on Netflix as Anthony Joshua knocked out Jake Paul.
Most Valuable Promotions announced the viewership figures for last Friday's show, which also set a live-gate record for a boxing event at Miami's Kaseya Center:
As big as the viewership was, it lags well behind the audience for Paul's unanimous decision over Mike Tyson in November 2024. Netflix touted more than 108 million viewers for that show.
This could be attributed to multiple factors.
Long after he retired, Tyson is a name more familiar to American sports fans than Joshua. Casual observers knew of Iron Mike and were curious to see how he'd fare.
Joshua was a late replacement for Gervonta Davis as well, which left Most Valuable Promotions in a race against time to build up hype. Less than two weeks from the original date, Paul scrapped his planned encounter with Davis and then pivoted toward the British heavyweight.
The entire Jake Paul spectacle might be losing some of its pull as well. Joshua's knockout of the influencer-turned-boxer aside, the action wasn't all that memorable.
Paul was clearly overmatched when Joshua had five inches and nearly 27 pounds on him. Still, the 28-year-old did little to quiet those who have questioned his skills as a pugilist. It's tough to envision how he would've performed dramatically better against the much smaller Davis.
As he recuperates from a broken jaw, Paul is soliciting opinions about his next opponent, and he's likely to have a lot of suitors because he remains a big box-office draw.
His next fight will be a better indicator for whether the interest in Paul is as strong as ever.
