Luis Suarez Agrees to New Contract with Messi's Inter Miami After MLS Cup Win

Timothy RappDec 17, 2025

Luis Suárez will remain with Inter Miami for at least one more season.

The 39-year-old striker has agreed to a deal to return to the club after posting 17 goals and 17 assists for Inter Miami in 50 games across all competitions during the 2025 season.

Suárez will likely be returning in a reserve role.

The veteran forward was suspended for Inter Miami's Game 3 matchup against Nashville SC and wasn't in the starting lineup for the remainder of the team's playoff run to an MLS title. He was an unused substitute during Inter Miami's 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS Cup.

Manager Javier Mascherano denied that the team was better without Suárez in the lineup after defeating Nashville in November.

"We have played 55 games this season, which we have won, I think, 31. And the majority, we have done so with Luis Suárez on the field. To be pointing out one player or another is not my style, not my way of working and it would be disrespectful to the career of Suárez and Luis as a player," he told reporters at the time. "I have always said the same thing, for a team like ours with the long season we knew we would have from the beginning; to be successful and reach our targets we would need every player. And I continue to think the same way. The team needs everyone to keep advancing, like a coach, I will keep taking decisions according to what I think the game needs. There are no two games alike; Cincinnati is not Nashville. They play differently."

Suárez got himself suspended twice this past year, however, including a six-game Leagues Cup ban after spitting on a Seattle Sounders security director. He will not be eligible to participate in that competition in 2026.

Before joining Lionel Messi in Miami, Suárez had high-profile stops at Liverpool, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.
