Chelsea Transfer News: Charles Aranguiz Joins Leverkusen, Latest Blues Rumours
Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly agreed a deal with Internacional midfielder Charles Aranguiz, ending Chelsea's link to the Chilean player.
Despite remaining a pivotal part of La Roja's squad since 2010, Aranguiz is only just on the cusp of confirming his first move to Europe at the age of 26, reported by Bundesliga writer Daniel Busch:

Italian website Tuttomercato (h/t Telegraph Sport) previously reported Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was "interested" in adding the workhorse midfielder—who possesses excellent passing and tackling skills, as well as an eye for goal.
However, Leverkusen head coach Roger Schmidt can look forward to slotting the player in alongside defensive midfielder Christoph Kramer, noted by Bundesliga writer Stefan Bienkowski:
Sam Tighe of B/R UK is excited by Aranguiz's addition to the Bundesliga:
Chelsea's midfield options are stacked, so it's no surprise to see Aranguiz may prefer a move elsewhere. Even if Mourinho wanted to sign him for the Premier League champions' squad, the likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Oscar, Ramires, John Obi Mikel, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and others would have made a first-team run difficult.
The loan signing of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao and capture of Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic remains Mourinho's only summer business thus far. However, as reported by the Daily Star (h/t Telegraph Sport), Chelsea have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

He is a more powerful player than Aranguiz but doesn't operate with the same level of control or discipline. Sissoko often bombs forward with possession only to leave his team-mates struggling to cover, a trait that would likely frustrate Mourinho, who drills his players to remain organised.
The 24-year-old isn't majorly productive—scoring four and assisting two in 34 Premier League matches last season, per WhoScored.com—but he is extremely confident in his own ability, as highlighted in comments reported by French website Foot Mercato (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror):
"With a year until the Euros, I shouldn't change club and risk ended up on the bench. But at the same time I want to play for one of the biggest clubs.
I want to play in the Champions League, which we don’t have at Newcastle. One day or another, my time will come. But in any case I see myself staying in England.
"
Football writer Andy Brassell graded Chelsea's transfer business so far:
Mourinho is likely conscious of not upsetting the balance too much. His squad eased to the English crown last season and don't need a major overhaul to do the same again. Extra quality, and indeed match-winners, will be key to posting a successful run in the Champions League, though.
Aranguiz has the quality to become a key player at Leverkusen, where his array of skills will go down a treat. For Mourinho, the remainder of the transfer window should be spent on unearthing world-class players who can add unique qualities to Chelsea's squad, not piling extra quality on top of areas that are already crammed.
