NBA Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Brendan Haywood, Glen Davis and More
Blockbuster trades and big-ticket free-agent signings have been in the rearview mirror for time time now, but there are still rumors floating around the NBA at this point in the offseason.
While most franchises have virtually locked in their rosters following summer league action, there are a few squads still looking to make a move or two to ensure they keep the best possible 15 players under contract for the coming season. They'll do that by either signing an aging veteran or bringing in a developing young player well before training camps get underway.
So, which teams are likely to be active at this time, and which players are rumored to be involved in those moves? Thanks to some trusted sources around the Web, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect in those regards.
Cavaliers Preparing to Dump Haywood

The Cleveland Cavaliers have successfully brought back their key players from last season on new deals—well, aside from Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith. Due to these signings, the team faces some stiff luxury-tax penalties. In an effort to keep clear of such fees, the Cavaliers have been looking to offload the massive $10.5 million salary of Brendan Haywood; albeit, to no avail.
Sine the team couldn't find a deal it liked for the high-priced center, it decided to go another route. Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reported a move that will likely be a precursor for a Haywood trade:
"The Cleveland Cavaliers executed a minor trade with the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, helping set up a larger deal that will involve Brendan Haywood, sources told ESPN.com.
The Cavs sent center Rakeem Christmas, the No. 36 overall pick in June's draft, to the Pacers for a 2019 second-round pick owed by the Los Angeles Lakers. The trade gives the Cavs roster flexibility and an asset they can use to move Haywood and create a large trade exception in the next week.
"
With the Cavaliers' new flexibility to move Haywood, we should expect a deal to get done in short order. Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders tweeted a pair of likely takers:
So, you may be asking yourself why the Philadelphia 76ers or Portland Trail Blazers would take on Haywood's enormous contract. Well, it's really simple. Both teams have the cap space to absorb his salary, and they would only keep him in the fold for a minute before simply waiving him. Doing so would result in an additional second-round draft pick. After he's waived, teams will be able to acquire his services for a far lesser price.
Glen Davis Sweepstakes

You can tell it's late July due to the fact that Glen Davis is making headlines as one of the top available free agents. The man affectionately known as Big Baby spent last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, coming off the bench in 74 games to average 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor.
Davis is only two years removed from full-time starting status, and he is still capable of playing a fair share of minutes. That should make him a valuable asset for a team looking to solidify its frontcourt depth with an experienced veteran. Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times tweeted the interested parties:
The Clippers' interest in bringing Davis back should come with little surprise, as he was serviceable in the team's frontcourt rotation over the past season-and-a-half. The Milwaukee Bucks, on the other hand, do have some frontcourt talent in Jabari Parker and Khris Middleton, but the team lacks veteran experience up front. That's what Davis will bring to the table.
Mike James Garnering Interest

Summer league point guard Mike James lit up Las Vegas and was extremely fun to watch along the way. He started the league coming off the bench for the Phoenix Suns, and it was soon realized he was one of the best players on the team's roster.
Due, in part, to James' stellar play, the Suns breezed through the Las Vegas bracket but fell to the San Antonio Spurs in the final despite the point guard putting up 32 points in the game. Following that performance, teams quickly began to express interest in possibly acquiring James' services, according to a tweet from Shams Charania of RealGM:
Not every team interested in James has been disclosed just yet, but the 6'1" point guard feels he has what it takes to make it in the NBA. During an interview with Paul Coro of AZCentral.com, he said: "I feel like I'm good enough to get a look and maybe be in the NBA. Just getting a look is going to pay off eventually."
The way things are looking, he may just get his chance in the near future.
