Myles McLaughin Falls Short of Breaking Derrick Henry's Historic HSFB Rushing Record

Adam WellsNov 22, 2025

Indiana high school running back Myles McLaughlin finished his high school career 268 rushing yards short of breaking Derrick Henry's record.

Per Dana Hunsinger Benbow of The Indianapolis Star, the Knox High School superstar put up a season-low 78 yards in a 35-0 loss to Bishop Luers in Friday's 3A semistate game.

McLaughlin entered the day needing 364 yards to surpass Henry's mark of 12,124 yards during his four years at Yulee High School from 2009 to '12. He will graduate with 11,838 rushing yards.

This was just the seventh time in McLaughlin's 54-game high-school career that he was held under 100 rushing yards. It's his first time not hitting the century mark since Sept. 1, 2023, when he was a sophomore and had 76 yards in a 56-8 win over Culver City.

"It was a great season; I'll look at that the rest of my life and be super grateful for it," McLaughlin told John Bailey of WNDU in South Bend after the loss. "It just sucks we went out this way."

Despite coming up short in his quest for a state title and Henry's career rushing record, McLaughlin still put together one of the greatest seasons ever by a high school running back.

The Indiana native set national records for most rushing yards in a single season (4,768) and rushing touchdowns (71). He joins Henry as the only high school players ever with at least 11,500 career rushing yards.

McLaughlin has not yet committed to a college, though he recently got his first FBS scholarship offer from Ball State.
