Will Trinity Rodman Leave NWSL? Commissioner Gives Update on Star amid Transfer Rumors

Zach BacharNov 20, 2025

NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman provided an update on Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman's future in the league.

"We want Trinity in our league and we will fight for her," Berman said during her annual State of the League address on Thursday, per ESPN's Jeff Carlisle and Jeff Kassouf.

Rodman later reacted to Berman's comments.

"I started and got drafted in this league," Rodman said, via Carlisle and Kassouf. "So, it's created such an amazing soccer player in myself. It's brought out a lot of things. I've learned a lot. This league has grown every single year, so obviously I'm honored to have her say that.

"Obviously, just really happy about that, but at the same time, I don't want to put that pressure on myself of like, because she said that I'm like, 'Oh shoot, I'm trapped' [laughs]. But again, I'm focused on this weekend and that's really all I can focus on. And then moving forward, then that's when I really have those conversations and tough calls that I have."

Meg Linehan and Tom Bogert of The Athletic reported Saturday that the 23-year-old's representatives had discussions with "at least three" clubs in the English Women's Super League.

Rodman has also received a contract offer from DC Power of the Gainbridge Super League that's "significantly larger than what the Spirit or NWSL is able to counter under the current salary cap limitations," per Linehan and Bogert.

She's currently playing on the final season of a four-year contract worth $1.1 million that she signed with Washington in Feb. 2022. The Spirit initially selected Rodman with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NWSL college draft.

She's recently been sidelined due to a sprained MCL, as health woes have limited her to playing in just 16 of Washington's 26 games this season.

Rodman has recorded 13 tackles, five goals and two assists in her 16 appearances.
