Why Was Dillon Brooks Fined $25K By NBA After Suns' Win vs. Pacers?

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was fined $25,000 for making a "lewd gesture" during Thursday's win over the Indiana Pacers, the NBA announced.

Brooks used the DX chop celebration while lying on the court after taking a foul in the final minute of Thursday's game.

He converted the and-1 free throw to help the Suns close out the 133-98 victory.

The fine comes amid a hot streak for Brooks, who headed into Thursday's matchup having recorded at least 16 points in three straight games following his return from groin injury.

Brooks went on to post his best outing of the season Thursday with 32 points on 12-for-18 shooting against the visiting Pacers.

The Suns forward was last fined during his 2024-25 season with the Houston Rockets, when the league levied him a $25,000 penalty for swearing during a TV interview in January.

Brooks isn't the only player to pay up for using the chop gesture, which was popularized by WWE's D-Generation X, on the court this season.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was fined $50,000 on Nov. 2 after using the same celebration during a game against the Boston Celtics.

Embiid has been receiving fines for using the same celebration for years. He received social media support from WWE stars including Triple H and Shawn Michaels after taking a $25,000 fine for use of the gesture in 2021.
