Kamaru Usman Eyes Title Belts in 2 UFC Divisions, Talks Possible Chimaev Rematch
Kamaru Usman feels the "storybook" ending to his UFC career would be to retire as a two-division champion, he told TMZ Sports.
That would involve the recovery of Usman's former welterweight belt, which he previously held from 2019 to 2022, as well as moving up to win the middleweight title.
"The storybook would be to go and grab this title, then go and grab the other title," Usman told TMZ ahead of Saturday's welterweight title fight between Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev at UFC 322.
Usman could be eyeing taking on either Maddalena or Makhachev, depending on who emerges victorious from Saturday night's matchup at Madison Square Garden.
Next on the list would be a rematch with Khamzat Chimaev, who claimed the middleweight title at UFC 319 with a victory over Dricus Du Plessis in August 2025.
During his last matchup with Usman, Chimaev won via majority decision at UFC 294 in October 2023.
"I think that's an intriguing fight," Usman said about the Chimaev matchup, per TMZ. "That's a compelling fight that everybody would want to see on a full training camp to go out and challenge him."
"And, you know, two-division champion. That's the only thing that is not on the resume is the two-division champion. Go out and get that. And at that point, then you look back and go, 'Oh, what else is there to do?"
Usman (21-4-0) last fought in June, when he took on Joaquin Buckley as a title fight on UFC on ESPN 69. His unanimous victory over Buckley marked his first win since November 2021.
TMZ reported that there is "no timetable" for Usman, who will turn 39 in May, to return for his next UFC matchup.
