Warriors Reportedly Had 'Several Extended Meetings' After Blowout Loss to Thunder

Joseph ZuckerNov 13, 2025

The Golden State Warriors staged "several extended meetings" in the aftermath of their 126-102 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Anthony Slater.

The chats seemed to do the trick as Golden State responded by beating the San Antonio Spurs 125-120 on the road, with Stephen Curry dropping a game-high 46 points.

Head coach Steve Kerr downplayed the significance of his team's unscheduled conferences. He said the Warriors "weren't exactly panicking," per Slater.

Curry had a similar message when he explained this was "not like a players' only meeting full panic mode situation," according to The Athletic's Nick Friedell.

"But it was just a good film session to talk about the things โ€” we were a step slow offensively and defensively, and when you're playing against the champs, it looks bad," the 11-time All-Star said. "But it was how do you create good space offensively, make quick decisions, get the ball moving. Obviously, we made a lineup change, but it was more an approach to the game that kept us in it even though we weren't making shots in the first half."

Kerr made a tactical change for the Spurs game, inserting Moses Moody and Will Richard into the starting lineup. That meant Jonathan Kuminga got shifted to the bench, and he played just 12 minutes against San Antonio.

Not surprisingly, Kerr intends to stick with that plan:

Maybe Golden State found a winning formula moving forward.

"In the 82-game season, you're going to have spells," Kerr said, per Slater. "The important thing is to rediscover your identity."

Curry isn't going to have 40-plus points every night, though. As the year drags on, teams will have more time to devise ways to exploit Richard's flaws on the court. If the past is any indication, Kuminga may not love coming off the bench when he's probably already looking toward his next payday in 2027.

The team meetings and Kerr's tactical tweak worked for now. Whether that effect is sustained moving forward is another question.
