Arch Manning Helping Ty Simpson Prepare for Alabama vs. Oklahoma, QBs 'Talk Weekly'
Texas quarterback Arch Manning is helping Alabama signal-caller Ty Simpson as he prepares for the No. 4 Crimson Tide's home matchup with No. 12 Oklahoma, per comments relayed by Nick Kelly of al.com.
Manning notably led Texas to a 23-6 win by connecting on 21-of-27 throws for 166 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 34 yards.
"It was a good game, so I asked him a couple questions," Simpson said, per Kelly.
"He asked me a couple questions about Vanderbilt and about Georgia. Quarterback etiquette, talking to one another, 'Hey what did you see? What did they do here?' Just about plays and fronts in general. Stuff we talk about not just as friends but quarterbacks as well."
Manning and Simpson go way back, and their relationship has stayed strong throughout the years. Simpson said the two still talk weekly.
"We had to be in like middle school," Simpson said regarding the start of their friendship. "We worked out together a couple times. Of course, we had a ton of respect for each other, just because of us being two of the best quarterbacks. How similar we are. We just love ball. We'll hang out outside of football. He's a nut ... A ton of respect to him and his family and his brother. He's a really good friend. A good friend to have."
Manning, of course, can get notes from Simpson about No. 5 Georgia, who Texas is playing on Saturday. Simpson led Alabama to a 24-21 win by completing 24-of-38 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions). He also rushed for a touchdown. It's a huge game for Texas, who can make a big statement to the College Football Playoff committee on Saturday with a victory.
We'll see how the Manning-Simpson note swap works soon enough on Saturday. Alabama will host Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. ET, and Texas will visit Georgia for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
