Ben Askren Returns to Wrestling on Video Months After Double Lung Transplant Surgery
Ben Askren provided an update on his recovery from undergoing double lung transplant surgery in June.
In a Thursday post on X, Askren showed himself wrestling once again after revealing that he was unable to stand without assistance in August and required a walker in September.
Askren was hospitalized with a staph infection that developed into pneumonia and resulted in the procedure, via Lorraine McKenna of BBC Sport.
The 41-year-old later said that he "died four times" and his heart stopped for 20 seconds before undergoing the surgery.
Askren is a storied wrestler and MMA fighter, winning two NCAA national championships in 2006 and 2007 during his college days at Missouri. He went on to star in Bellator and ONE, capturing the Bellator Welterweight World Championship in 2010 before securing the ONE Welterweight Championship in 2014.
He eventually had a brief stint in UFC, owning a 1-2 record with a win over Robbie Lawler at UFC 235.
As Askren continues to recuperate, it's an encouraging sign that he's already able to wrestle again.
