NBA Rumors: Latest Info on Mario Chalmers and More Info from Around the League

Brian MaziqueJul 22, 2015

The Miami Heat have too many point guards who have a reasonable expectation to play significant minutes.

Goran Dragic was just re-signed by the team to a five-year, $86 million contract. Shabazz Napier is entering his second season after leading the UConn Huskies to a national championship. He's ready to prove he can contribute on a major level in the NBA. And then there's Mario Chalmers, a key member to the Heat's last two NBA championships and four straight trips to the Finals. Quite obviously, he expects to play as well.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Chalmers' days in Miami are numbered. Jackson writes: "The Heat has time to move Chalmers, because a team’s tax bill is based on the roster on the final day of the regular season, an NBA spokesman said. But Miami appears interested in moving as soon as it can find a suitable deal, according to a league official who has spoken to the Heat."

Knicks Haven't Lost in a Month 🤷‍♂️

Chalmers, who turned 29 in May, averaged a career-high 10.2 points per game for Miami in the 2014-15 season. However, he shot a career-low 29 percent from three-point range. A potential suitor would be a team that believes Chalmers could still be an asset with players around him who can get him better looks.

Copeland Close to Becoming a Buck

Former Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks forward Chris Copeland looks to be headed to the Milwaukee Bucks next, per ESPN.com's Marc Stein:

Copeland appeared in 50 games for the Pacers in the 2014-15 season. He averaged 6.2 points per game and shot 31 percent from three-point range. The Bucks will be hoping Copeland can add some scoring punch off the bench as Milwaukee continues to add to its intriguing roster.

A starting five of Michael Carter-Williams, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker and Greg Monroe is pretty solid. A good bench will only make the Bucks stronger.

Hunter Green

The Boston Celtics are expected to ink the 28th overall pick of this year's draft, R.J. Hunter, by next week, per A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast SportsNet Northeast:

Hunter is known as a sharpshooter who helped lead the Georgia State Panthers to an NCAA tournament berth. Still, Hunter made just 30 percent of his threes. During NBA Summer League play, Hunter averaged 15.6 points per game, but he still struggled to knock down his shots.

Hunter made just 35 percent of his threes. To truly be an asset to the Celtics roster, Hunter has to become a lights-out three-point shooter.
