Julia StumbaughNov 1, 2025

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement made MLB history in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series with an eighth-inning hit against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The single off Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan made Clement the first batter to record 30 hits in a single postseason.

Randy Arozarena set the previous record with 29 postseason hits while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. meanwhile sat just two hits shy of matching Clement's new record with 28 hits in the 2025 postseason heading into Saturday's ninth inning.

Clement had put up a postseason slash line of .397/.403/.544 with one home run and nine RBI heading into Game 7 of the Fall Classic.

That included seven hits in a two-game span in Games 2 and 3 of the ALDS, which marked the first postseason series of Clement's career. Clement finished the four-game slate having gone 9-for-14 against the New York Yankees.

"I think Ernie Clement has kind of made everyone aware of how good he is," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the Blue Jays' ALDS Game 4 win. "Ernie had an unbelievable first postseason series for a guy that has been through it a little bit. I think he kind of epitomizes what we are in terms of how we play."

Clement went on to record another nine hits during the Blue Jays' seven-game ALCS battle with the Seattle Mariners, including an RBI in a must-win Game 6.

He went into Game 7 against the Dodgers with nine hits, including two doubles and two RBI, in 27 plate appearances through six games against the Dodgers.

A few years ago, Clement was a fringe MLB player being DFA'd by the Cleveland Guardians in 2022 and released by the Oakland Athletics in 2023.

Since signing a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays in 2023, Clement has now become not only an MLB regular but a key member of the batting lineup for a championship contender.
