NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Trade Buzz on Mario Chalmers, Shabazz Napier and More
At face value, the biggest names are off the NBA trade rumor mill.
Case in point, the Denver Nuggets found a suitor for embattled point guard Ty Lawson and shipped him to the Houston Rockets, per Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. In a way, Lawson was the last major name left.
It's never so simple with the NBA, especially not when things change on a dime. The Nuggets-Rockets transaction is a good example. Most figured no team would want Lawson, then a rebuilding team cleared up cap space while a contender got deadlier in the blink of an eye.
So it goes. The mill continues to churn and so do front offices. Here is a look at the latest.
Trey Burke's Status

The Utah Jazz are one of those teams out West most expect to make a big move.
It makes some sense. The Western Conference looks brutal once again, and it might be better for certain teams to count their losses and hit the reset button as soon as possible. With the Nuggets doing a deal, the attention now seems to turn to the Jazz.
Not helping matters is the depth at point guard, which makes Trey Burke a point of focus.
Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune reported otherwise on rumblings from the mill:
There is a lot of pressure on Burke to produce, sure. He's just 22 years old, but he struggled last year with an average of 12.8 points and 4.3 assists on 37 percent shooting from the floor.
His rocky ride in the Association so far helps the rumblings make sense, as does the presence of 2014 No. 5 pick Dante Exum.
Burke even spoke on the rumors with Brendan F. Quinn of MLive.com:
"Obviously I'm in Utah right now and looking forward to our upcoming season with the team and the firepower that we have right now. So for me, I am uncertain, but I'm definitely a member of the Utah Jazz right now. Definitely, when you hear your name in trade rumors, you try not to worry about them or think about them or pay attention to them at all. So that's what I've continued to do.
"
Point guard is the most important position in the league right now, so there is no such thing as too much quality depth, provided the Jazz want to make a run in the West.
If not, expect the trade rumors to heat up. Burke represents a great high-upside option for suitors. Should the Jazz want to make a run, though, the former Michigan standout will stick around and contribute one way or another.
Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier Hit the Block

An excess of depth is a bad thing when it puts a team into cash issues with the league.
Pat Riley and the Miami Heat know a thing or two about this as repeat cap tax offenders. The front office looks on its way to more fines too after an offseason in which it drafted Justise Winslow, kept Goran Dragic and Dwyane Wade and even brought on Amar'e Stoudemire.
The Heat have too many players and too much cash committed, so rumblings about point guards via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald makes sense: "A general manager with another NBA team told me Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier are the players the Heat has been most aggressive in shopping, with Miami preferring to move Chalmers because of his $4.3 million salary.)"
The potential desire to move Chalmers seems the ideal route given the cap hit provided. He's 29 after averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 assists last year. With Dragic back in the fold and Napier a work in progress, it doesn't make a lot of sense for the front office to dole out so much cash to a potential third-string player.
Speaking of Napier, he didn't do much as a rookie and figured to play a larger role with the team if Dragic didn't return. He did, which means the former UConn star is one of the most attractive pieces the organization can dangle on the market for relief.
For his part, Napier remains focused on the on-court side of things.
“I’ve got a year under my belt and I’ve played the NBA game already, so that’s the reason why I feel so at ease,” Napier said, per Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post. “I’m gonna learn through my experiences and continue to grow and believe in the process. It’s the same mentality.”
For now, the Heat are the most interesting team to watch. It won't take long for another team to steal the limelight, though—especially when one remembers the NBA's final tax bill for teams isn't due until the final day of the regular season.
Napier, Chalmers and the Heat could be in the headlines for a while.
