Adelaide vs. Liverpool: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Pre-Season Friendly

New Liverpool signings James Milner and Danny Ings fired the Reds to a 2-0 victory over Adelaide United on Monday, maintaining a perfect record along the Premier League side's pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

Liverpool previously whooped the Thailand All-Stars 4-0 before narrowly overcoming the Brisbane Roar 2-1 during their preparation for the new campaign.  

Manager Brendan Rodgers deployed a transitional 4-3-1-2 formation, placing Jordon Ibe and Divock Origi up front with Adam Lallana prowling behind, per Liverpool's official Twitter account:

Chances were at a minimum in the first half. Impressive young left-back Joe Gomez bombed forward for the Reds in the opening exchanges and whipped a fantastic cross toward Origi, who failed to flick the opportunity in, per Twitter user Ruben Rostille:

Origi then showed some clever footwork on the left side of the box before flashing a telegraphed shot over the bar. He received another opportunity to open the scoring on 18 minutes after Joe Allen burst forward and played the ball to the powerful Belgian's feet. Origi's first touch took him away from goal, though, and he slid a nonthreatening attempt into the gloves of Eugene Galekovic.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo offered his thoughts:

Milner stung Galekovic's gloves on the 38-minute mark, but despite the Reds' possession, Adelaide's well-drilled unit remained tight enough to keep it scoreless. The Australian side showed decent intent to move into Liverpool's half when the ball broke, but serious threats to Liverpool's goal were scarce.

Dejan Lovren wasted a free header inside the opponent's box after the break. Liverpool continued to probe, however, and with just over 20 minutes left, the Adelaide resistance yielded. Captain Jordan Henderson sprayed a simple pass wide to Ibe, who crossed toward Milner.

Rodgers will be pleased with another useful outing for his side. Although Origi blew hot and cold, Milner already looks the part in a post-Steven Gerrard midfield for the Merseyside club.

Ibe's productivity has become more crucial since the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, so his assertive display will also excite Kop fans. Confident showings from Gomez and Ings underline a solid summer for the club so far.

Liverpool round off their tour with an encounter against the Malaysia XI in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Rodgers' players will no doubt be looking to return home with their perfect run intact, an excellent precursor to the difficult Premier League season ahead.
