Texas' Steve Sarkisian Addresses Titans, NFL HC Rumors, 'It Really Pisses Me Off'

Zach BacharOct 25, 2025

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian discussed the rumors connecting him to the NFL and Tennessee Titans following the Longhorns' 45-38 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.

"It really pisses me off that one person can make a report that the entire media sports world runs with as factual to the point where my agency has to put a statement out that they've never done," Sarkisian said after the game, per 247Sports' Eric Henry.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported earlier on Saturday that Sarkisian's representatives had contacted NFL teams to let them know that he would be interested in possible head coaching openings, including the Titans' current vacancy.

Sarkisian's representatives, Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz, denied the report.

"Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and wildly inaccurate," they said in a statement. "Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team."

Sarkisian is in the midst of his fifth season patrolling the sidelines for the Longhorns, owning an overall record of 44-19 with the school. Texas is also coming off a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance in 2024.

The Longhorns have produced plenty of recent NFL talent in Sarkisian's tenure. They had 12 players selected in the 2025 NFL draft, the third-most of any school.

Prior to joining Texas, Sarkisian previously had head coaching stints at Washington and USC. He also served as offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons from 2017-18 before winning a national championship in the same role at Alabama in 2020.

The Titans will be on the lookout for a new head coach after firing Brian Callahan on Oct. 13 following a 1-5 start to the season.

In the meantime, Texas will be looking to build upon Saturday's win and return to the CFP.

It'll be no easy task, as three of the Longhorns' next four opponents were ranked within the top 10 of the latest AP Top 25 poll.
