Gotze Frustrated at Bayern as Arsenal and United Monitor the Situation
Wednesday, Aug. 5
"We will see what will happen," said Gotze after scoring the second goal of Bayern's 3-0 Audi Cup win over AC Milan, relayed by Reuters (h/t Toby Keel of Eurosport). He added:
"It is clear that the last two years were not that easy. We will see what happens. We will see if he (Guardiola) will speak to me more often. Now I will just let things come to me. For anything else we will have to see.
"
James Cambridge of the Express suggested both Arsenal and United are now on "red alert" over the player's future.
Gotze, Juventus Reportedly Agreed Personal Terms; Guardiola Ruled Out Switch
Sunday, July 19
A previous report from La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia) suggested Gotze agreed a five-year contract with Juventus.
However, Guardiola insisted Gotze would be staying with the club during a press conference in Shanghai, according to Eurosport:
"Mario's got a contract here, he's my player and he's a great player too.
In my mind, he is going to be a Bayern Munich player all season.
He's a top player, but I know that it's not only the coach who decides here. It depends on the club.
"
Gotze moved to the German champions from Borussia Dortmund in 2013 but has so far failed to live up to expectations. The attacking midfielder isn't a perfect fit for manager Guardiola's philosophy, whereas Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is still looking for the perfect No. 10 to suit his needs.
While he wouldn't confirm talk of a move to Juventus during an interview with Goal on July 18, Gotze made it clear he's open to the suggestion of a move, saying:
"I think that Juventus reached the Champions League final not by chance but because they had a great season last year. They managed to win titles in the last year and they are a big, big club. But, at the moment, I don't want to comment because there's nothing to say...at the moment.
I think that playing abroad might be a good experience for me: new languages, new cultures. I might like it.
"
The 23-year-old remains one of the most talented young players in football, combining raw athleticism and a healthy dose of trickery with lethal instincts in front of goal. A fresh start may be all he needs to revitalise his career, and given Bayern's capture of Arturo Vidal, a move to Turin makes a ton of sense.
