Seth Curry Waived by Warriors, Reportedly Expected to Re-Join Stephen on Roster
The Golden State Warriors waived guard Seth Curry on Saturday, although he is reportedly expected to re-sign with the team in the near future.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Warriors will bring Curry back into the fold next month when they "have sufficient financial flexibility" to do so.
Curry, who is the younger brother of Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry, signed an Exhibit 9 training camp contract with Golden State earlier this month.
Per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Warriors would exceed the second apron of the salary cap if they kept Seth on the roster to start the regular season. Because of that, they always planned to waive him before re-signing him the week of Nov. 10 when his prorated salary is low enough to remain below the second apron.
The 35-year-old Curry is preparing to enter his 12th NBA season, and when he re-signs with the Warriors, they will be his 10th different team.
Although he has been a journeyman, Curry is one of the most efficient three-point shooters in NBA history.
His career three-point-shooting percentage of 43.3 percent is seventh on the all-time list and the second-best mark among active players behind only Luke Kennard.
While Steph Curry is widely regarded as the best three-point shooter of all time thanks to his record of 4,058 career trifectas made, his three-point shooting percentage of 42.3 percent is 13th on the all-time list, behind his younger brother.
Last season, Seth appeared in 68 games for the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 6.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 three-pointers made in 15.6 minutes per contest. He also led the league by shooting 45.6 percent from deep.
Seth isn't necessarily expected to have a huge role when he returns to the Dubs, but he can provide an offensive spark off the bench in head coach Steve Kerr's fast-paced and high-volume-shooting system.
The Warriors have reached the playoffs in three of the past four seasons, and they are coming off a fairly successful 2024-25 campaign that saw them reach the second round of the playoffs.
Golden State wasn't overly active in free agency, instead opting to focus on keeping the core of Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody together.
Veteran big Al Horford was the most notable addition with Seth Curry arguably being next in line behind him.
Until Seth rejoins the team, the onus will be on Steph, Podziemski, Moody, Hield and Gary Payton II to lead the way in the backcourt.
