Stanford's Aaron Morris 'Alert and Responsive' After Leaving Game in Ambulance
Stanford cornerback Aaron Morris is "alert and responsive" and "doing well" after being immobilized and then taken off the field in an ambulance after suffering an injury during the first quarter of his team's road game at SMU on Saturday.
Stanford spokesman Brian Brownfield (h/t Associated Press) relayed the news on Morris, a junior from Lowell, Massachusetts.
A Dallas Morning News SportsDay staff report reported the events that led to Morris being taken off the field.
"The cornerback went down with about 5:19 left in the first quarter. Morris was on the field attempting to cover SMU wide receiver Jordan Hudson. When SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings threw a pass to Hudson down the right sideline, Morris and Stanford linebacker Sam Mattingly went in for a tackle on the open receiver. It appeared Morris fell at an awkward angle as Mattingly ran in to take Hudson down.
"Morris was on the field for a moment before trainers brought out a stretcher. He was then loaded onto the stretcher and into a University Park Fire Department ambulance."
Morris has played 21 games over his three seasons at Stanford, starting seven. He's amassed 44 tackles (28 solo) and five pass breakups.
The communication major emigrated from Jamaica and even played for his country's national cricket team. He was introduced to football only a few years ago.
Morris starred at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and was his team's MVP. The all-conference star also excelled in track and was the state's long jump champion.
