British Open Schedule 2015: Updated TV Coverage, Live Stream Info After Delays

Sean ODonnellJul 18, 2015

As we know, weather can be an enormous factor at The Open Championship, as heavy rains and winds are common in the British Isles at this time of year. That has certainly been the case at St. Andrews' Old Course on Saturday.

We already entered the day waiting for players to finish the second round after early heavy rains caused standing water on the course and a three-and-a-half-hour delay Friday. When players went out early Saturday to complete Round 2, they were hit by extremely high winds that eventually halted play once again.

Here's the official statement from the Twitter account of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club:

At the time of publication—12:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. BST)—play had still not resumed. The goal is to finish the second round before darkness Saturday, play the third round Sunday and finish the final round Monday, according to the R&A. This marks the first time The Open Championship has been pushed back a day since 1988.

Players still don't know who they will be paired with for the third round, and a cut has yet to be made. Once those facets of the tournament come to fruition, we'll have a concrete viewing schedule for the remainder of The Open Championship. Until then, here's a look at how to watch for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday.

Updated Schedule

Round 2Saturday, July 187 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.ESPN
Round 3Sunday, July 196 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.ESPN

Live Stream: WatchESPN

Note: Monday's schedule has not yet been released.

Friday Recap

A total of 42 players weren't able to complete their rounds Friday. Among them were co-leader Dustin Johnson, Paul Lawrie (one stroke behind Johnson), Louis Oosthuizen (two strokes back) and world No. 2 Jordan Spieth.

Of the players who finished, the most surprising was Danny Willett, who followed up an opening-round 66 with an impressive 69 in damp conditions Friday. Despite poor conditions, Willett began strong, birdieing three holes on the front nine to make the turn with a three-under 33. He would birdie No. 10 to move to 10 under for the tournament but followed that up with two bogeys before birdieing No. 18 to finish at nine under.

Ranked No. 39 in the world, Willett isn't a household name; however, he does have an impressive resume. He was formerly the world's top-ranked amateur and handily defeated current world No. 1 Rory McIlroy in the British Amateur Championship final. Since then, he hasn't reached the expectations set out for him, winning just twice on the European Tour.

Willett shared his thoughts on the move to the professional ranks during his post-round press conference, per the Associated Press (via PGATour.com).

"Amateur and professional golf are very, very different but it put me in good stead," he said. "It made me believe that I could compete with the best of them. It's a work in progress and it's nice that it has come off this week."

The Englishman is tied atop the leaderboard with Johnson, who has yet to finish his second round. Currently, Johnson is two under through 15 holes in Round 2, combining with his opening-round 65 to sit at nine under for the tournament.

In a similar performance to that of Willett, Johnson began his second round with a flourish, birdieing the fourth, fifth and seventh holes to make the turn with a three-under 33. However, he went on to struggle on the back side, birdieing No. 10 but recording bogeys on the 11th and 14th. He went on to par the 15th before play was suspended.

Lawrie sits in solo third with a score of eight under for the tournament. He shot a brilliant 66 on Thursday and made it through 13 holes Friday before play was suspended. Two birdies and a bogey saw him make the turn at one under, and he went on to add another birdie on No. 10 to reach two under for the day.

After shooting a 67 in Round 1, Spieth had a roller-coaster outing Friday. After four consecutive pars to begin the day, he went on to bogey the fifth and eighth holes and birdie the sixth, seventh and ninth, making the turn with a one-under 35. A bogey at No. 11 dropped him to even for the day and four strokes off Johnson's and Willett's pace.

Spieth was able to right the ship following the bogey and went on to par his last four holes of the day before the weather forced him to retire. When play resumes, he'll begin on No. 16 and will be looking for birdies to make up some ground before moving day.
