British Open 2015 Final Round to Be Played on Monday Due to Weather Delays
Adverse weather conditions at St. Andrews mean the winner of the 2015 British Open will be crowned Monday, not Sunday, because of continued suspensions in play. It's just the second time in the competition's storied history that the final round has been pushed back a day.
The R&A Twitter feed provided an update of the altered schedule after heavy winds prevented players from completing their second rounds Saturday:
It means those players who have already completed their first two rounds have yet to discover their pairings for the second half of the championship, and as of yet, no golfers have been subject to the midpoint cut.
As Ben Smith of BBC noted, it's a rarity for the weather to cause so many issues:
Looking ahead, players who are in the clubhouse with two solid rounds under their belts are likely to have a major advantage. Even if the action does resume as anticipated Saturday, the conditions are still likely to be difficult to master on what is a challenging golf course in the best of times.
Currently, Englishman Danny Willett and American Dustin Johnson are at the top of the leaderboard at nine under.
