Open Championship 2015: Live Stream Schedule, Saturday Weather Info and More

Steven CookJul 17, 2015

A three-hour rain delay throughout Friday at the 2015 British Open meant two things—major championship golf late into the night Friday and a jam-packed Saturday at St. Andrews, Scotland.

The marquee group of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama made it through 13 holes against the odds, playing until 11 p.m. local time. Others could only make it through the front nine before heading to the clubhouse.

Johnson held the outright lead moving into Saturday, but that could change in an instant as 19 golfers are within five strokes of his lead. Let's take a look into Saturday's play.

Saturday Weather Info

It's not going to rain. That's about the only promising information regarding Saturday's weather at St. Andrews.

Chilly weather when play starts Saturday is just the beginning of what the golfers will have to deal with out on the Old Course. According to Weather.com, that 55 degree weather will come along with gusty winds.

The hourly forecast calls for more wind as the day rolls along, starting at 22 mph and moving as high as 26 mph into the afternoon. Whether players are teeing off early, late or both, they'll be dealing with the elements.

The adjustment has been tough for many golfers in the mix who aren't used to playing in Europe, but it's even bad for those locally, as Richie Ramsay noted from Friday:

The winds inevitably make things difficult from anywhere on the golf course. On the tee box, golfers will have to adjust their shots to account for it, approaching these flexible par-four holes in different ways than they could have Thursday or Friday.

That may pale in comparison to how it impacts the greens, however. Certain greens have higher elevation that allows for increased winds, as we saw when Johnson, Matsuyama and Spieth all bogeyed the tricky 11th hole in consecutive fashion Friday.

Of course, this is what makes the Open at St. Andrews unique. It's a course that can be dominated when the conditions are ideal, but it's simply about survival and avoiding disaster when things get how they are Saturday.
