Scottie Scheffler Makes Ryder Cup History with 0-4 Start as Europe Dominates USA
Scottie Scheffler's struggles at Bethpage Black continued on Saturday.
Scheffler was winless once again in his 2025 Ryder Cup action, becoming just the second player to ever lose a match in each of his first four sessions of the event.
Scheffler and Russell Henley fell to Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre in foursome play on Saturday before Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau lost to Europe's Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose in the afternoon four-ball session.
Following the second defeat, Europe held a lead of 9.5 points to 3.5 points over the United States.
Scheffler and Henley squared off against Hovland and MacIntyre to open Saturday's action, but ultimately lost by a 1-up margin.
"Russ and I, we battled hard out there," Scheffler said after the defeat, per Will Gray of PGATour.com. "The guys we played against just played great. They did a good job. They holed the key putts. Obviously disappointed with the finish, but battled pretty hard this morning and going to go out and do it again in the afternoon."
The No. 1 player in the World Golf Ranking wasn't able to regroup, as Fleetwood and Rose secured a dominant 3 and 2 win over Scheffler and DeChambeau.
Fleetwood continued to excel at the 2025 Ryder Cup with the win, recording more points than the entire United States team.
Scheffler's failure to meet expectations continued from his performance at the 2023 Ryder Cup, as he halved two matches and lost two others during the competition.
His subpar performance on Saturday was especially shocking considering he's in the midst of a historic 2025 season, with PGA Championship and Open Championship victories under his belt.
Now, the United States is in serious danger of losing its second consecutive Ryder Cup.
