Ranking The New Day's Best WWE Moments
The date and location of John Cena's final match has been reported on and assumed for quite some time, but an official announcement from WWE may be on the horizon.
According to WrestleVotes (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE is expected to announce the details surrounding Cena's retirement match "as soon as this weekend."
WrestleVotes reported earlier this month that Cena's last match will take place at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on the Dec. 13 episode of Saturday Night's Main Event.
Before WrestleVotes' report, it was widely assumed that Boston would be the host city for Cena's retirement match since it is close to Cena's hometown of West Newbury, Massachusetts.
However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone) reported that WWE asked for close to $7 million in site fees to host Cena's retirement match, and city officials in Boston didn't feel it would be able to generate enough revenue to offset the cost since the event is close to the holidays.
Cena has only five advertised dates remaining in his pro wrestling career. In addition to his retirement match in December, Cena is advertised for Crown Jewel next month, and two episodes of Raw and Survivor Series in November.
After losing to Brock Lesnar in one-sided fashion at Wrestlepalooza this month, Cena will face one of his greatest rivals next month at Crown Jewel in the form of AJ Styles.
Beyond that, it is unclear which opponents are up next for Cena, and predicting his final opponent in December is merely guesswork at this point.
Lesnar Reportedly Planned for Royal Rumble, WrestleMania
Following his return to in-ring action this month at Wrestlepalooza, there are reportedly big plans in place for Brock Lesnar in 2026.
According to WrestleVotes (h/t Carrier), WWE is internally listing Lesnar to be part of Royal Rumble 2026 in Saudi Arabia in January, and WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas in April.
After two years away, Lesnar made his surprise return to WWE at SummerSlam last month, attacking Cena after he dropped the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes in the main event.
That led to a match between Lesnar and Cena at Wrestlepalooza, and while Cena got in some flurries of offense, The Beast Incarnate mostly dominated en route to a convincing victory.
It isn't yet clear what is next with Lesnar, but since Paul Heyman introduced him at Wrestlepalooza, he could potentially become at least an affiliate member of The Vision, perhaps setting up his inclusion in a WarGames match at Survivor Series.
BodySlam.net (h/t Carrier) recently reported that there has been at least some talk in WWE of doing Lesnar vs. Bron Breakker at WrestleMania.
If Lesnar works with The Vision only to have a falling out with Breakker, it would be a natural way to set up a clash between two of the hardest-hitting Superstars in WWE.
Reported Details of Nyx's WWE Contract Offer
NXT star Jazmyn Nyx reportedly turned down a contract that would have paid her the same amount she was already making over her first three years in WWE.
This week, Nyx divulged in an Instagram video that she is departing WWE after turning down a contract from the company that she didn't feel was good enough financially.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Carrier), WWE's offer was a three-year deal worth the same $75,000 annually that she was already making.
Fightful noted that while WWE did want to keep Nyx in the fold, the company was unwilling to offer a higher salary.
In her explanation video, Nyx suggested that she wasn't willing to re-sign with WWE at a rate lower than what she wanted since it would have prevented her from pursuing outside opportunities as well.
Nyx, 27, did not indicate if she plans to continue wrestling elsewhere, or if she wants to do something else entirely.
After playing soccer at West Virginia University and spending some time as a pro soccer player in Europe, Nyx signed with WWE in 2022.
She was eased into the pro wrestling world before becoming part of the Fatal Influence stable with Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley last year.
During Nyx's time with the group, Henley held the Women's North American Championship, and Jayne is still the reigning NXT women's champion
Nyx was taken out by a mystery attacker during Tuesday's episode of NXT, and Jayne and Henley agreed that it was time to kick Nyx out of the group.
While it hasn't played out on screen yet, there is reason to believe Lainey Reid could serve as a replacement for Nyx in Fatal Influence since she has interacted with the group often in recent weeks.
