Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau Hype Potential Ryder Cup Matchup After Masters Spat
Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau were paired during the final round of The Masters this season, but they didn't speak and have taken some mild swipes at each other publicly since.
That has added a bit of spice to the upcoming Ryder Cup, when McIlroy will be representing Team Europe and DeChambeau will be one of the headliners for Team USA.
"If I come up against Bryson at some point, I think that's great," McIlroy told reporters on Thursday. "I think that's wonderful for the championship and wonderful for us, as well, in some ways."
"Would I love to go up against him? Yeah. It would be a lot of fun," DeChambeau added. "Is it going to happen? It's not likely. I mean, maybe once. You never know."
DeChambeau previously said he plans to "chirp in [McIlroy's] ear" during this year's Ryder Cup, to which the Northern Irishman responded that "the only way [DeChambeau] gets attention is by mentioning other people. That is basically what I think of that. To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others."
Both players have downplayed any personal rivalries ahead of the Ryder Cup. But it's certainly a fun subplot heading into the event.
