Floyd Mayweather in 'Talks' of Risking 50-0 Undefeated Streak After Mike Tyson Fight
Floyd Mayweather is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all-time and retired with a sparkling 50-0 (27 KOs) career record, but the 48-year-old has at least considered risking that mark with a comeback fight.
"There's been talks. It's possible," Mayweather said during an interview with TMZ Sports (2:34 mark) when asked if he would take a professional fight after an exhibition bout against Mike Tyson. "… But we just don't know. As of right now, everything is going great, I feel good, working hard each and every day. And I can't wait for 2026."
Mayweather's last professional fight came in 2017 when he defeated UFC star Conor McGregor by technical knockout.
Yet he has remained in the public eye with some exhibition fights with the next one scheduled for spring 2026 against a fellow boxing legend in Tyson. Tyson, who is 59 years old, recently lost to Jake Paul in November 2024 in another exhibition.
At their peaks, a showdown between Tyson and Mayweather would have meant contrasting styles and approaches. Tyson was known for his overwhelming power, while Mayweather was exceptional on defense.
While Mayweather will not be fighting the peak version of Tyson, he could end up in the ring with someone who is performing at their best if he takes another professional bout.
There may need to be some serious risk-reward analysis, as Mayweather's legacy as a boxing great is already secured with his 50-0 record and resume that includes titles in five different weight divisions.
He also has a number of notable victories, including wins over Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez. Adding a 51st victory to that list of accomplishments wouldn't alter his standing as an all-time great, but losing a fight would take away his claim to an undefeated record.
First, though, he will test his mettle against Tyson.
