CM Punk, AJ Lee and Real Winners and Losers of WWE Wrestlepalooza Match Card

Kevin BergeSep 20, 2025

The first-ever WWE Wrestlepalooza promised the top stars in the business in a jam-packed Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the action delivered.

John Cena hoped to take down Brock Lesnar, but instead, The GOAT fell to the overwhelming power of The Beast Incarnate.

Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed overwhelmed Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso, forcing LA Knight to count the finish on behalf of The Vision.

Stephanie Vaquer and Iyo Sky delivered on the promise of two of the best in the women's division colliding, ending with a definitive victory for La Primera to capture the Women's World Championship.

AJ Lee returned to the ring for the first time in a decade and defeated Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch alongside her husband, CM Punk.

Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to retain the WWE Championship and send the fans home happy at the end of the night.

The following are the real winners and losers from an important night for WWE.

Loser: John Cena

1 of 5

When John Cena announced his retirement tour, the promise was to deliver a memorable run to highlight his career and legacy before passing the torch.

A poorly executed heel run for The GOAT almost derailed that plan, but Cena was seemingly back on track after delivering a classic WWE Championship fight against Cody Rhodes to solidify his turn back to the light.

Brock Lesnar's arrival threatened the entire plan as The Beast Incarnate is someone Cena has always struggled to beat.

That showed at Wrestlepalooza again. Cena looked outmatched and overwhelmed competing with Lesnar, who squashed him as definitively as their SummerSlam 2014 clash.

In the end, the GOAT was dominated, and the fans were left unsatisfied as the clock winds down on Cena's career.

This will either lead to an unnecessary rematch or just leave Cena questioning what little he has left in his waning days in WWE.

Either way, little was accomplished, once again putting over Lesnar after Cena had defeated so many other big names that could have used the boost more, not to mention the fresh talent that still want a shot at The GOAT.

Winners: Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed

2 of 5

It would have been very easy to give The Usos the feel-good win in their return, defeating Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

Instead, The Vision picked up a strong win, coming off even more as a dominant force that will be too much for most anyone to overcome.

This likely also sets the stage for The Vision to capture the World Tag Team Championships soon, giving the group all the gold.

While this booking does not bring up the question of why The Vision could not defeat Roman Reigns and Jey Uso at SummerSlam, the overall direction of this group is strong.

It should lead to a collision in WarGames, where the babyface crew might finally get some revenge against a heel alliance that has grown increasingly powerful.

Winner: Stephanie Vaquer

3 of 5

The rise of Stephanie Vaquer to the top of WWE was quick. In just one year, she has won the NXT Women's North American Championship, NXT Women's Champion and now the Women's World Championship.

Each victory has been faster than expected, but nothing came up more unexpectedly than her victory in the Women's World Championship.

After Naomi's pregnancy announcement, she left an opening at the top of the Raw women's division for someone to fill.

Iyo Sky had held that title previously, but La Primera had a chance to level up for the sake of the overall division.

Vaquer has so many fresh match-ups against top names with her title on the line. From Rhea Ripley to Asuka, La Primera should be busy for a while as Raw's top woman.

She could even make it to WrestleMania with the gold from this point forward.

Winner: AJ Lee (and CM Punk)

4 of 5

AJ Lee stepped back into a WWE ring for the first time in 10 years, and she hardly looked like she missed a step.

The Black Widow had Becky Lynch on the ropes at multiple points in this fight and did not struggle with the spotlight.

It would have been easy to heavily lean on CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins as proven top stars with plenty of chemistry built up in the ring.

Instead, it was clear that everyone involved knew AJ needed to be at the center of this match's story.

Luckily, she was ready to deliver, and The Best in the World has to be overjoyed to work with his wife in the ring for the first time since they were married.

The win for Punk and AJ also sets up both for future title shots against the champions, which means even more great action to come in WWE from some of the leading veterans.

Loser: Drew McIntyre

5 of 5

Drew McIntyre talked a big game about getting another shot at the world championship, promising he would be champion again.

He walked into his match with Cody Rhodes cocky and left without a victory.

This is a tough loss to swallow for a man who has repeatedly lost title matches in recent years. He needed this victory.

Instead, the dominance of The American Nightmare continues unabated. It is hard to imagine anyone will challenge him seriously until at least WrestleMania 42.

McIntyre may get another shot at the gold at some point, but it's hard to imagine him winning later after his definitive loss.
