Lakers' LeBron James Calls Golf 'Hard as S--t,' Says He's 'On My Way Up'

Adam WellsSep 18, 2025

Much of LeBron James' offseason posting has been about his new favorite hobby, golf, but the Los Angeles Lakers superstar acknowledged he's still learning the game.

In an interview on COMPLEX's 360 with Speedy YouTube show (starts at 1:40 mark), James described golf as "hard as s--t" before noting he is "on my way up."

James did explain that the difficulty of the game is what attracted him to it because he "wanted a challenge" because he enjoys "being uncomfortable" at times.

Golfing videos are among the few glimpses James has offered into his summer activities as he prepares for his 23rd NBA season. He posted two different clips on the course in August, one in a cart with Bronny James and another playing through the rain.

There has been a lot of attention around James this offseason, even more than usual, because of the cryptic comments from his agent, Rich Paul, after his client opted into his $52.6 million deal with the Lakers for next season.

Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania on June 29 that James "knows the Lakers are building for the future," but he also "values a realistic chance of winning it all."

It was speculated at the time that James was potentially looking for a way out of Los Angeles, but that situation was reportedly never seriously discussed by the Lakers.

As things currently stand, James is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season. He is the oldest active player in the NBA and one of only two players over the age of 40, along with Chris Paul.

James remains one of the best players in the league even at this late stage of his career. He made the All-NBA team last season after averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game in 70 starts.

While no one is clamoring for James to hang up his NBA sneakers, his eventual retirement will give him more time to focus on improving his golf game.
