Canelo Alvarez Says 'I Feel in My Prime' Ahead of Terence Crawford Boxing Fight
Canelo Alvarez says he feels like he's in his "prime" as he prepares to take on Terence Crawford Saturday night in Las Vegas with his undisputed super middleweight title on the line.
"I feel great. I feel in my prime," Alvarez told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith in an interview aired Friday. "I feel in my best moment.
"I think the universe prepared this for me, and I feel in my prime right now."
Crawford, who moved up two weight classes in order to challenge Alvarez, matched his opponent pound-for-pound during Friday's official weigh-in.
That leaves Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) at a career-high 167.5 pounds heading into the match, up from 153.4 pounds during his last fight against Israil Madrimov last August, per ESPN's Andreas Hale.
Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) last entered the ring in May, when he took a unanimous decision over William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He told Smith he was expecting his fight with Crawford to be better than the bout with Scull, whom he had to chase down at times during their May showdown.
"My last fight, I don't call it like a fight, because the guy never tried to win," Alvarez told Smith. "And it's very hard to fight with somebody like that."
"I don't think (Crawford) is going to do like that. He has pride... he's a good fighter, he's a great fighter."
Alvarez and Crawford are set to throw down at Allegiant Stadium in a bout airing on Netflix starting at 9 p.m. ET Saturday.
