WWE's Jey Uso Is Falling for Roman Reigns' Trap

Chris RolingSep 13, 2025

Just when WWE fans thought they might finally be free of The Bloodline saga, there's a fresh, interesting possible twist that could stretch all the way to the next WrestleMania, if not beyond.

And with Jey Uso in Roman Reigns' orbit again, it could be amazing

The running thread of Jey being corrupted by Roman continues to get tugged here and there by WWE.

Or, rather, the thread was yanked in a big way on a recent Raw broadcast when Jimmy Uso went as far as remarking that Jey sounds just like Roman after some choice comments:

And as an infamous villain once said: Away. We. Go.

There's an incredible angle here for WWE to chase down.

Jey going heel has been one of those internet ideas for a long time now that, frankly, has some merit. He needs a spark. WWE rewarded him with a big championship win for getting over as a solo act, but it was pretty obvious to most that it wouldn't last long. Now, he's been floating in a bit of purgatory while the main-event scene continues to get jammed up with the likes of John Cena.

But Jey going heel through more Roman manipulation that plays out on a weekly basis? It's an incredible idea. And right now, Reigns is "out" with an "injury" while Jey undergoes these subtle character shifts.

Sure, WWE has thrown a ton of promotion behind The Usos getting back together at Wrestlepalooza to take on The Vision, ie, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. But it feels like a setup where the promotion can swerve fans and cause even more issues between Jimmy and Jey while one attempts to prevent the total corruption of the other.

It's a downright genius way to get Jey some much-needed juice, keep Reigns and Seth Rollins in the same orbit and straight-up make what could be a quiet part of the year far, far more interesting than it has any right being.

WWE, after all, has enjoyed some stellar long-form storytelling in the Triple H-directed era. Fans have already done much of the legwork for him on social media, pulling up and re-sharing some deep cuts from the past in which Jimmy warned Jey about becoming Roman and how the then-Tribal Chief attempted to position Jey as his successor.

And just like that, things have gone from fantasy booking online to open doors through well-paced character development. It's a testament to just how good all involved were in the all-timer that was the Bloodline saga, and a recurring reminder that there are still some amazing stories worth telling here.

A note about Reigns, too: He's really, really over with fans right now and some might classify him as a babyface. But he's in that Rollins bucket in terms of fans not ever fully being able to trust him as a good guy. And there have been borderline things he's said, mannerisms he's done, etc., that have been sheer flashbacks to his evil, gaslighting-his-own-family days.

So, a veer off into he's been gaslighting all along while steering Jey to the dark side would feel organic from Roman.

Along those same lines, fans probably won't ever fully boo Jey, no matter how evil he attempts to get. But that's a good problem to have, as the best storytelling in modern times has resided in this gray area where there's not one explicit line in the sand dividing good from bad. Jey, the scrappy underdog doing bad things because Roman gaslit him into doing so? It just sounds like fun

At some point down the road, WWE will obviously angle to get Roman back in the top title scene. It's a space Jey could occupy again, too, especially if he's super hot with fans as a gone-bad, delusional presence going against fan favorites like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk or others (guys who can really sell his misguided nature on the mic in promos).

In the interim, though? WWE boasting this slow-rolling narrative, John Cena's retirement tour, Seth Rollins as a top champion and Rhodes the other is an incredible lineup for the winter months.

Lots of roads open up going into WrestleMania season, too, whether WWE wants to angle for Roman vs. Jey or something else involving the mentioned names.

Bonus points, too, for something like this saga adding serious spice and weight to an eyerolling winter event like say, Survivor Series: WarGames in November. If nothing else, the shoehorned-in stipulation PLE could feature some compelling, must-see storytelling from this angle.

Consistently manipulated before breaking free to earn even more love from fans, Jey falling into the trap again and letting history repeat itself is, if nothing else, consistent. But it's also just smart storytelling and plain fun as it gets in pro wrestling.

As such, these little hints WWE's already throwing out about going this route should be fully embraced by fans. The Bloodline saga isn't done, not when a door like this with Roman and Jey remains ajar. Now it's just time to lower the shoulder and bust through it.
