ESPY Winners 2015: Full Results and Recap from Sports Awards

Chris RolingJul 16, 2015

The 2015 ESPY Awards, to keep it in sports terms, hit it out of the park.

As always, the award show walked a silly-serious tightrope with the eloquence of a gymnast. Joel McHale didn't hold anything back as host, and the serious elements, such as the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, visibly moved the crowd and millions watching worldwide.

As far as winners go, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and UFC's Ronda Rousey came out on top, collecting two awards apiece.

First, the silly.

McHale, best known for Community and The Soup, went to town on the sporting world, poking fun at the Seattle Seahawks' play decisions, the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight and much, much more, as SportsCenter captures:

Heck, McHale even dropped a joke about Jason Pierre-Paul in the process.

Rousey was also in on the action. Not only did she take home the Best Fighter and Best Female Athlete awards, she threw a haymaker in Mayweather's direction:

As for Curry, he took home Best NBA Player and Best Male Athlete—no surprise after he won the title and was the NBA MVP. Fellow NBA superstar LeBron James took home Best Championship Performance after averaging 35 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the Finals, even besting American Pharoah's Triple Crown triumph.

On the NFL side of things, MVP Aaron Rodgers bested the superhuman efforts of Houston Texans defensive tackle J.J. Watt to take home Best NFL Player. Peyton Manning won Best Record-Breaking Performance for touchdown pass No. 509.

Outside of the dominant sports, the United States women's national soccer team took home the Best Team award after winning the World Cup.

"You guys believed in us the entire seven games, since four years ago when we fell short to 10 days ago when we won it," Abby Wambach said, per ESPN.com. "We lifted the trophy. We did this for American and our fans. You guys are the best. We love you so much."

On the more serious side of things, Caitlyn Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage and delivered a touching speech, following in the footsteps of the many prior recipients:

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance on behalf of his daughter, Leah.

As ESPN's Coley Harvey noted, even many of the athletes in attendance focused on the inspiring journey of the Stills:

Like past speeches, Still delivered one to remember:

Chalk it up as another successful, memorable night for the best sports award show in town.

As a way to honor and celebrate athletes on and off their surfaces of play, it doesn't get better than the ESPYs. Wednesday reinforced the show's status, and the march toward the next one and another epic calendar of sporting events begins in earnest.
