Calling True or False on 4 Recent Bayern Munich Transfer Rumours
It's July, which means any news in the world of football isn't quite news unless it involves a transfer story, rumour or theory involving one player moving from one club to the next.
Unfortunately, Bayern Munich have always been victims to such stories, with the German champions commanding a large portion of most column inches and newspaper back pages because of their size and scope for signing players.
Yet the true art to reading such stories is deciphering when the players and transfer stories in question are true or false. Fortunately, we've gone ahead and done that for you today.
Here are four transfer stories involving Munich's biggest club and the reasons why they're either true or false.
Arturo Vidal (from Juventus)
1 of 4
In a move that seems to come from nowhere very quickly, star Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is apparently on the verge of signing for the German champions.
According to Marcus Christenson and Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian, the Chile international is set to sign for Bayern for a fee of £28 million, with the player's agent, Fernando Felicevich, currently in Munich to complete the deal.
Although such a move makes little sense on paper—after all, Bayern did just sell central midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and already have a whole choir of midfielders to pick from—reports about it from across the continent seem to suggest this deal is all but done.
We're going to say this is true.
Robert Lewandowski (to Manchester United)

If there is one transfer story that may indeed prove that such rumours are often plucked from thin air, then it is that of Robert Lewandowski and Manchester United's the apparent interest in him.
Despite only signing for Bayern last summer, the Polish striker has been linked with the Premier League side for quite some time, leading his agent, Cezary Kucharski, to speak out on Polish television to nip such rumours in the bud.
As relayed by Joe Strange of the MailOnline, Kucharski said: "There is no reason, apart from money to be honest, to even think about it.
"Bayern would have to think about why they would get rid of Robert Lewandowski? It seems to me that there is no reason to even think about it."
We're confident that unless anything truly drastic happens between now and the start of the new season, this transfer rumour is indeed false.
Mario Gotze (to Juventus)
3 of 4
In a report from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Adam Smith of the MailOnline) it seems as though the Italian press believe German midfielder Mario Gotze will head to Juventus as part of the aforementioned Arturo Vidal deal.
Such a transfer, or indeed swap, would certainly raise a few eyebrows among many fans who still thought there was more to come from the 23-year-old. Sure, he hasn't been great under Guardiola over the past two years, but selling him would seem a little drastic.
Add to that the general feeling those higher up the Bayern chain of command still believe in the man who won Germany the World Cup, and this deal just makes very little sense.
This one seems as though it could well be false.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
4 of 4
In early June, Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet (h/t George Bellshaw of Metro) reported that young Bayern midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was of interest to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Although several weeks have passed since that story was published, the news Arturo Vidal is on his way to Bayern may well mean such a deal could very well be back on the cards.
The young Dane has never shied away from expressing his disdain for sitting on the bench, and the arrival of yet another superstar in the middle of the pitch for the German champions may prove to be the final straw for the player.
Although very little has moved on this front, we think any deal linking this player with a move away from Bayern this summer may well be true.
