Georgia Tech's Powell-Lee Shades Deion Sanders' Colorado for Featuring Celebs at Games
Georgia Tech senior defensive back Clayton Powell-Lee didn't mince words when asked about Friday's season opener against Colorado.
While speaking about the environment he expects to face in the primetime matchup on ESPN, Powell-Lee sent some shade toward the Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders for their star-studded attendees list for their home games.
"Everybody says it's a different experience, so I've experienced some crazy stadiums since being here," Powell-Lee said at the 2:33 mark. "So just knowing that, not trying to overhype it, honestly. Like, it's another game. I know they bring out celebrities, they do all this crazy stuff, but we're playing football. None of them playing, they can hype it up all they want to, but it's you on the field, not them."
Since Sanders took over as Colorado's head coach in 2023, games at Folsom Field have become a marquee attraction. Celebrities seen at Buffaloes games over the past few years include Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Rob Gronkowski, Lil Wayne, Andrew Luck, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, CC Sabathia, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
Powell-Lee is coming off a strong junior year in which he totaled 53 tackles, three passes defended and a sack. The Yellow Jackets went 7-6 last season and lost to Vanderbilt in the Birmingham Bowl.
This year's Colorado squad will look very different after losing Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders to the NFL, along with a host of other key players. Still, it can be expected that Coach Prime will have the Buffaloes ready to answer Powell-Lee's trolling when the two teams meet on Friday.
