Former Indianapolis Colts punter and current sports media megastar Pat McAfee reacted Friday to being chosen as a 2025 inductee into the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame.

McAfee made a post on X about his appreciation for honor, writing, "This is normally something I would try and f--king hate. I'd say that it's bulls--t and they feel obligated to do this, but this call made my soul feel good."

The 38-year-old McAfee played at WVU from 2005 to 2008 before getting selected by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft and enjoying a highly successful NFL career.

Over eight NFL seasons with the Colts, McAfee was a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro, and he averaged 46.4 yards per punt with a net average of 39.8 for his career.

Although he only punted and kicked the ball off in the NFL, McAfee did it all during his time at WVU.

Over his four seasons as a Mountaineer, McAfee averaged 43.7 yards per punt and also served as the team's regular kicker. He made 58 of his 79 field goal attempts for a success rate of 73.4 percent, while also converting 210 of 212 extra points.

As a senior in 2008, McAfee received one of the biggest individual honors in college football in the form of being named a First Team All-American.

McAfee's success carried over to the NFL, and while quality punters often play deep into the 30s, McAfee retired from football before reaching the age of 30.

He did so in order to chase his dream of being a personality in the sports media space, and it fair to say that his gamble paid off in a big way.

Now, McAfee is the host of the hugely popular Pat McAfee Show in addition being part of ESPN College Gameday and a professional wrestling commentator for WWE.

As successful as McAfee was in football, he has managed to exceed it in the media space, making him a valuable advocate for the teams and programs he has been involved with, including the Mountaineers, Colts and WWE.

McAfee will take his place as a Hall of Famer alongside five other legendary WVU athletes and coaches on Sept. 27 prior to the Mountaineers' home football game against Utah, per WV News.
