Wednesday Preview
Two of the highest-scoring teams in this year's field will square off Wednesday when Nevada and Connecticut meet. Neither has yet to lose, establishing themselves as the class of the United States bracket.
The Mountain Region representative proved they could win a grueling, scrappy game by outlasting South Carolina for a 1-0 victory Monday while Connecticut piled on South Dakota, putting up 13 runs while allowing just 1 in a lopsided win.
Nevada should be able to match Connecticut's output, having scored three more runs than them to this point in the tournament, but will they be able to limit the opposition and prevent the game from turning into a shootout?
If the results to through one week of play are any indication, Connecticut may be more proven and prepared to stop Nevada, having allowed just two runs this entire tournament.
South Dakota and South Carolina have each proven stout competition but the latter is the team to watch, especially with Joe Giulietti leading the way. The former's defensive breakdown against Connecticut Monday gave plenty of reason for pause and heightened expectations that Wednesday could be their final appearance in this year's event.
The best game of the entire tournament may take place in the International Bracket as two unbeaten squads, Venezuela and Chinese-Taipei, square off. Neither team has allowed a run, a trend that will come to an end in Williamsport Wednesday afternoon.
They appear to the be the class of their side of the bracket but do not discount Tokyo, who will look to eliminate Aruba and, potentially, avenge their loss to Venezuela, depending on the outcome of that team's game.
