BMW Championship Leaderboard 2025 Review of Top Scorecards and Player Stats on Day 1
Robert MacIntyre caught fire on the back nine after a first-round rain delay at the BMW Championship to open up a four-stroke lead over Scottie Scheffler.
The Scottish lefthander rolled in five consecutive birdies to finish with an eight-under 62. The 62 tied his lowest round on the PGA Tour.
FedEx Cup leader Scheffler was in the lead for a short time, but MacIntyre flew past him as the sunlight faded at Caves Valley Golf Club.
The course was not as kind to Rory McIlroy, who shot an even-par 70 in his return to the FedEx Cup events. He skipped last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, but remained in second place in the FedEx Cup standings behind Scheffler.

Robert MacIntyre Thrives on Back Nine to Open Up Huge Lead
2 of 4
Robert MacIntyre's putter could not be stopped on the back nine.
The Scotsman shot six-under on the final nine holes. He rolled in seven birdies and only gave up one shot back the course.
After his bogey at No. 12, MacIntyre reeled off six straight birdies to fly away from the field.
The incredible round allowed MacIntyre to jump into third place on the provisional FedEx Cup standings. He entered the BMW Championship in 20th place.
He's got plenty of work to do to secure the win and the 2,000 FedEx Cup points that comes with the victory, but Thursday's round was an excellent tone-setter for the next three days.
Scottie Scheffler Opens With 66
3 of 4
Scottie Scheffler was the 18-hole leader until MacIntyre blew past him in the afternoon.
Scheffler carded a four-under 66. He's still in solid position to win the BMW Championship because only MacIntyre is in front of him after Thursday.
The top men's golfer in the world started and finished strong with three birdies in four-hole stretches.
Scheffler birdies the first, second and fourth holes and then the 15th, 16th and 18th holes.
However, Scheffler gave two shots back with bogeys at the ninth and 10th holes. Those two blunders pulled him closer to the rest of the field than to MacIntyre.
Rory McIlroy Opens with Even Par Round
4 of 4
Rory McIlroy did not fare as well as some of the other top golfers on Thursday.
McIlroy produced an even-par 70 that left him eight shots behind his likely European Ryder Cup teammate.
McIlroy had an up-and-down first 10 holes with four pars, three birdies and three bogeys.
The Northern Irishman steadied his round with eight consecutive pars.
It wasn't a horrible round, but compared to Scheffler, MacIntyre and a few others, it was disappointing in terms of chasing the win.
