LSU's Garrett Nussmeier Reportedly Didn't Suffer 'Major Injury,' QB Is 'OK'
After rumors about a potentially serious injury for Garrett Nussmeier, the LSU quarterback reportedly isn't dealing with anything too major.
Wilson Alexander of The Advocate reported that Nussmeier "did not suffer a major injury" and "multiple sources said he's ok."
The Athletic's Bruce Feldman confirmed the news:
While the extent of Nussmeier's injury is still unclear, it's a good sign that there are multiple reports saying that it's not a major ailment.
Losing Nussmeier for any amount of time would have been a major blow for the Tigers, as the senior should be due for a massive year.
Nussmeier, a former 4-star prospect, is coming off his first year as a starter, and he didn't disappoint. After being given the keys to the offense following a Heisman Trophy-winning season from Jayden Daniels, Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, leading LSU to a decent 9-4 season.
After a phenomenal first year as the starter, expectations are high for Nussmeier, and he's even found himself among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.
With Nussmeier's success last year, fans have high hopes for LSU as a whole. The Tigers, who went 15-0 and won a national championship just six years ago, have put together a few decent seasons since Brian Kelly took over in 2022, but haven't quite reached national contender status.
With a top-10 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, and plenty of talent already on the roster, this year could be the time for LSU to finally get back to the College Football Playoff.
Nussmeier, Kelly and the Tigers will be put to the test early, taking on Clemson on the road in Week 1 before facing a promising Florida team in Week 3.
